I never knew that until it claimed the life of my daughter Nikki at the age of 24 in 2003. Nikki became ill with a very rare liver illness called Budd Chiari. It quickly took her life, but her spirit continues to live on.<\/p>\n

Nicole Shawnte\u2019 Ellis was full of life and passion. She was a 2000 graduate of Marquette University and was completing her master\u2019s degree at Chicago State University when this disease claimed her life. She later dreamed of returning to Marquette to attend Law School. She loved all Marquette sports especially men\u2019s and women\u2019s basketball and was a manager of the women\u2019s team. Nikki loved life and lived everyday to the fullest.<\/p>\n

After much careful consideration, we have decided to support the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and endow The Nicole Ellis Scholarship Fund at Marquette University. This fund will be managed by the Ethnic Alumni Association at Marquette University to benefit students who might not otherwise be afforded a Marquette education. We are excited to honor our daughter and know that she and her spirit will live on through this legacy.<\/p>\n

My family will never recover from the loss of Nikki. We feel her with us each day. Through the efforts of The Nicole Ellis Foundation we will continue to honor her life and her enduring spirit.<\/p>\n
